PG Update

Per Andrea's request whenever I talk about about being pg I will mention how far along I am.  Today I am ...

16 weeks and 3 days along

... and in 1 week we find out what we are having!  yeah!  We go in Wed the 7th at 8:30am for our genetics counseling appt, then we go over for our big u/s and then we have the amnio.  As soon as I get home I will post the news!  I will be on bed rest for 2 days after, so I will have lots if blogging to catch up on!

My gestational diabetes has progressed and I have now giving myself a shot of insulin every night before bed.  I tell you  it just feels so wrong to put a needle in your in stomach when you are pregnant!  I have been on the diet, I have been walking and I have been keeping my weight down, but it is my fasting #'s that are bad and that is being controlled by my hormones.  Lucky me!

I am feeling better- only throwing up in the morning and I am handling different foods better.

I feel huge and 8 months pregnant, but they say you pop out faster with the 2nd.  Right?  I know I need to take some belly pics.

Right now we are just hanging in there and waiting for it to be next wed and we are really looking forward to seeing our little cat dressed up tomorrow for Halloween!

Happy Halloween Eve!

PS.. Alfred's Mom found out what she is having!  So exciting!

Parking Patrol

I normally drop Marley off at day-care in the am, because school starts at 8.30 and I have to be at work at 8.  Today I was running a bit late and there were kids on the kinder playground, so I took Marley over there instead.  There is a circle out in the front of the school for drop offs (it is located about 10 feet from the playground where I was taking Marley).  So I park the car, get out, and take her into the playground.  I drop her bag by her teacher's door, giver her a kiss and start moving to my car.  As I am doing this, some random Mom (who I know is younger than me, went to the same school as me, and for the life of me I cannot figure out her name) asked me "Is that your car?"  Duhhh, she saw me get out of it.  "Yes, it is."  "Can you park someplace else?"  "I am not parking, I am dropping my kid off."  "O' well, the person behind you didn't know that you got out of your car and they are waiting for you to move."  Are you kidding me?!?  This parking circle is so wide, you can drive 2 cars side by side and still have plenty of room!  On top of that the person behind me SAW me get out of my car and take my kid to the playground.  Now I am thinking, "Who the hell made this woman the Mayor of our Elementary School?"  She is one of these women who doesn't work (lucky her) and is involved in ever single aspect of her children's lives giving them no room to breathe.  Not saying that being involved is a bad thing, I just think that it is good to have an identity outside of just being your child's mother.  Anyways, point of my rambling is, I wanted to knock her out!  It was only 8 am and I have a mother, thank you very much!

Our trip to the pumpkin patch

It appears that Saturday was the day to visit the pumpkin patch around here!  We went with our nephews like last year and Abbie had so much fun running around with the boys and trying to pick up all the pumpkins.  Our camera isn't as cool as Nicole's, but we still captured the fun and loved coming home and looking at the difference from her pics last year.

She is such a little girl now!!  Yikes!

She picked out 2 large pumpkins, 1 small one and 10 minis for her friends at school.  And of course when we come home each night she wants to try and pick up the big ones and carry them inside- ya it doesn't work- they are almost the size of her!

Booo on the Fires!

I mean BOO like BAAAD, not BOO like I scared you!  This coming Saturday, Marley was going to play Socorro's team for the first and only time this soccer season.  But with the air quality being so poor, all soccer activities have been cancelled through Monday.  Boo!  I had the camcorder charged up for that one too!

They like us... they really do!

Last night when we were getting ready to give Maddie a bath we heard a knock at the door followed by Scooter growling.  Alan ran to get the door and nobody was there.  It was ding dong ditch BOO style!  We got BOO'd by somebody in our neighborhood.  Our nice neighbors gave us a plate of homemade spooky cupcakes.  There were three of them, so it's obviously somebody who knows us and knows there are three of us in the house (sorry, Scooter - no cupcakes for you!).  I know I'm a dork but I was really excited that somebody in the 'hood likes us enough to give us goodies!  It's sort of the equivalent of being popular in high school, no?

You know those recipes on the back of cans and other various food packaging?  You know - those recipes that I thought nobody ever ever used?  I finally tried two of them.  And guess what?  They were yummy and super fast to prepare, which these days I'm all about fast and not to mention not too fattening.  Here is one in case you want to try.

Chicken Tortilla Soup

  • 2 - 14.5 oz. cans ro tel diced tomatoes and green chilis undrained
  • 2 - 14.5 oz. cans chicken broth
  • 1 - 16 oz. no-fat refried beans
  • 1/2 cup whole kernel corn
  • 2 cups shredded chicken (I used a rotisserie from the store)
  • Tortilla strips and shredded cheddar cheese

Combine ro tel and chicken broth in pan.  Stir in beans and corn.  Bring to a boil then simmer for 5 minutes.  Add chicken, heat appropriately.  Serve and top with tortilla chips and cheddar cheese.  Delish!

In other news, I was so totally pissed at One Step Ahead, where I ordered Maddie's other costume from.  They took forever to mail it out, so long that I was sure we wouldn't receive it in time.  Well, they've totally redeemed themselves and then some.  Thank you Sue from One Step Ahead - you rock!  The costume ended up being backordered.  Long story short they promised to send it out 2 day Fed Ex when it came in (no charge!) since they hadn't informed me it was backordered.  The Fed Ex order didn't make it's way through to the warehouse so they sent it out USPS (aka pony express).  Magically a Fed Ex box with one adorable black kitty costume arrived yesterday.  Me = confused.  HUH?  Sue just called my cell to follow up.  She saw the mistake and immediately sent a second costume out Fed Ex.  The USPS one is still on it's way and I just need to send it back to them "return to sender" once I receive it.  Seriously.  When's the last time a customer service agent actually called to follow up?  LOVE IT!  Will definitely purchase from them again.

Punkins!

This past weekend we took Marley and her friend Socorro to the Cal Poly Pumpkin Patch.

Marley and Socorro go to different schools, so they do not see each other too often and it was nice to get them together.  This is our second year to the pumpkin patch and I wish I knew about it long ago.  You pick your punkin for $4, softball size $2.  If we went to one of the other pumpkin patches, the pumpkins would be anywhere from $9-$20.  We got out of there with 4 for that price.  The girls also got their hair spray painted (they wanted to get their faces painted, but it was a mess last year).

They also got to "Rope a Cow", which was hilarious!

So Cal on Fire

Mn_satellitefires_ap Satellite Picture of the So Cal Fires.

Yup, tis the season for Santa Ana winds and fires.  It is pretty bad.  I heard that it is something like, 17 fires in 7 different counties.  There has been some containment, but it is minimal.  There have been tons of structures lost, thousands of people evacuated, and even some casualties.  Thankfully where we are located we are not in direct danger.  We just have to deal with the ash and the smoke.  Today we are looking at an eerie orange sky, expected temps in the low 90s, and winds with gusts up to 30 mph.  The Governator has declared a State of Emergency for CA.  Please say a prayer for those displaced and for those men and women fighting the fires.

A Trip to the Pumpkin Patch

Saturday we went to the Pumpkin Patch because, duh, that's like totally what you do when you have kids. You never miss the opportunity to take pictures of them. In any case, glad we went Saturday instead of today because holy crap is it windy outside today. I'll post a few today and will continue posting the rest all this week since there are eleventy billion of them.

The costume that almost was

Can't remember if I mentioned on here that the original plan was for Maddie to dress up as a bumble bee.  We got the costume from Target over a month ago and then finally decided that we should try it on her this past weekend.  The damn thing was too small!  Arrgh!  But of course we let her run around the neighborhood in it first so that we could take pictures... even if it was too small and had to be taken back.  As much as I loved the Bee costume they didn't have the larger size once I went back to Target, so I've ordered her a different costume online that should be here soon!

Deja Vu

Weren't we just doing this last fall?  I swear we had a bit of deja vu this am with Abbie in a hospital gown and the same out patient surgery center at 6am.  sigh.  My little one has gone through so many things in her short 21 months with us- especially for a healthy and happy child.  Anyways....

We survived!

Ok, Abbie did most importantly!

She wasn't too happy when we first got there.  When people would say hi she would tell them "no" and then cling to me tightly.  It wasn't until they gave her some meds to relax that she started being social.  It actually would have been funny at the time if I hadn't been so nervous.  She was talking to people and saying to everyone that walked by.  She kept telling everyone her friends names and who Mike and I were.  She just jabbered and jabbered.  And then when we asked her to point out her facial features she was just a little drunk- finding that nose didn't really work...lol...  Lucky she didn't cry when they took her away like last time.  It made it a little easier on me.  She seemed to be done in no time at all, but she didn't wake up as nicely as last time.  She was PISSED off and out of it!  She was screaming and crabbing on to my hair and shirt and you could tell she really didn't know what she was doing.  Poor baby.

The Dr said that everything went well and he had no problems (for those that don't know- Abbie had to be put under to have her tongue cut because she was what they call "tongue tied" - the tongue is attached to the bottom of the mouth and can cause speak problems if not cut or stretched) and she seems to be fine now.  I had to come into work for a little while and she was eating grapes and Cheerios with Mike when I left. phew!  We go back for a check up next week.

She can already stick her tongue out of her mouth and she has never been able to do that before.  I am so curious to hear if it changes it her speech at all.

Doesn't it just pull at your heart strings to see a baby in a hospital gown???

Can you tell she isn't that happy to be there?

If you get a chance go click on the link above from last year- she looks so much bigger now!  I think it is all the hair.  Looking at old pics just blows my mind!
