Happy Birthday Honey!

Today is my Mike's 36th b-day.  He is getting old!  Saturday we had his family over for the day. The kids played, they helped us do some things around the house and we had broasted chicken- yum!  We ended with Abbie singing him happy birthday and blowing out his candles over the strawberry and whip cream cake we made him.  Yesturday we made a family trip the Wild Animal Park in San Diego and today we are being lazy as a family around the house.  It is so nice to all be together.

Happy Birthday honey!  I love you so much!  Thank you for being my best friend, a wonderful husband and an out of the world father!  Parker, Abbie and I are so lucky you are ours!  XOXO!

Oh the guilt

So like Nicole and so very many others- I am truly obsessed with Pinkberry!  It makes me happy and I constantly have it on my mind.  I am sick.  Yesturday Nicole called me and said she was going to Yogartland and wanted to see if I wanted anything.  I of course did....hello....it was the first time that I have had it since discovering Pinkberry.  It was good, don't get me wrong.. but it wasn't my perfect, tangy Pinkberry with Fruity Pebbles, strawberries and yogurt chips (thank you Nicole)... I thought of my Pinkberry the whole time I was eating my Yogartland...

I feel like I was cheating... on my Pinkberry! sigh.

I think I need Pinkberry tonight.

Operation Princess Panty - Update

Yesterday Abbie did pretty well with only one accident.   We had picked her up early because Parker had a Dr. appt and she told us when she had to go at the Dr. (and Parkers Neurosurgeon rewarded her with a stuffed cow for it- a dang nice one too- how cool is he!) and she made it through Taco Tuesday at El Torrito and Pinkberry and all the way to bed time with only goin n the toilet.  She woke up this am and went all morning.  We were so happy and excited!  Then my phone rings at 8:30am and I see the schools # show on my caller id - and take it I panic every time I see that # because I assume one of my kids have broken something- and the teacher tells me that Abbie has had an accident (of course I am still thinking bones) and tells me that Abbie's shoes have poop all over them.  yeah!  Lucky me!  And that I need to bring her new shoes and socks (Hello- new potty training Mom here- didn't think about shoes) and well nothing is open at 8:30 in the am near my work except Walmart.  So made a trip over there and picked up a pair of tennis shoes and off I went back to her school.  She is so excited to see me and proudly tells me that she has peepeed on the potty all morning and she wants a prize (yes we bribe her- nail polish is the ticket as of last night).  I tell her how proud I am of her for that and ask her why she pooped in her princess panties.  She immediately responded with "I sorry Mommy" and promised me she would potty in the toilet the rest of the day.  So we will see how the rest of the day goes.  Fingers crossed for no more poop to clean!!!  I would much rather be painting glittery nails tonight then doing more laundry!

Thank god for princess panties!

Princess panties- my daughter is wearing them at school today and will proudly show you as she she showed her best friend and her parents in the parking lot today at school.  Cinderella ones to be exact, but we also have the ones with Belle, Little Mermaid, Sleeping Beauty and you can't forget Snow White.  She has back ups in her cubby with a few changes of clothes.. I think she will do well with the pee, but worried about the pooping.  We will see, but so happy to even be at this point.  I will keep you all posted- please say a little prayer that this sticks!

PS.... I have to go out and buy her all new shorts because all the ones that fit the diaper are falling off her now!

PPS... she hugs her panties and tells them she loves them so much!  If they will keep me from buying diapers- I will hug them too and buy her as many pairs as she would like!

16 hours

That is how long it took us to build this over the weekend.....

...from noon-8 pm each day.  Saturday we had Mike, his Dad and myself working on it while my MIL watched the kids inside.  Sunday we added my BIL to the team while my MIL watched my kids and my nephews.  We even had my 9 year old nephew help us sort parts and put bolts in for people to screw to make the process faster.  It weighs 750 pounds and can support 1000 pounds of kids on it!  It is huge and wonderful and my children are blessed to have wonderful grandparents who buy them amazing presents like this and then help put it together (Mike's parents bought it with a small amount of help from us and b-day money from my parents to Mike).  Abbie loves it...

...she thinks it is the best thing in the world!  Last night after dinner we went out and played for about a 1/2 hour.  It was great because with what little time we have together during the week - we can get to it quickly and we are all together.  The pups were hanging out and we are going to get a cradle swing for Parker.  It is wonderful!  All of Abbie's little friends can come play too!  We already have a little playhouse and a kids picnic table, now we just want to work on the planters and get a new outside table and the backyard will be amazing for us to use this summer and all year round- thank you so SoCal weather!

Here are pics of the 16 hours in progress...

Parker's bedding

I believe that I mentioned that we have Parker's bedding custom made.  I wasn't happy with any of the sports bedding out there as we wanted to use Mike's Angels Baseball memorabilia to decorate the room.  So we got a wonderful recommendation on someone that made custom bedding.  We found baseball sheets at Pottery Barn that we used as the primary material of the crib set.  Then accented it with a red baseball ticking and 2 different colored minky.  We are so happy with how it turned out.  We also found an Angels mobile to go with it.

We also had a valance made for his window that matches.  I just need to order the blinds for the window before he starts sleeping in there.

We still have so much to do in his room...  I need to find shelfs to put up Mike's bobble heads, hand the pics with the wonderful baseball mats we found at Pottery Barn.  As you can see we painted 2 of the walls a pretty blue color and the rest are cream.  We are so placed with it.  We also need to hang some other memorabilia and the closet needs to be redone.. Hopefully it will be done soon and I will post more pics!

2 months old

Parker is 2 months old today!  Can you believe it?  And he has experienced so much in that short time here with us.  Luckily he is now healthy and happy!  he is a big boy weighing in at 12.4 pounds (Abbie was 1.5 punds lighter at this age) and is already wearing 3 and 6 month clothes and wearing size 2 diapers.  He is a big chubby adorable boy!  I love him so much!!  He is a good natured baby and is now smiling and cooing and making the begining of laughing sounds.  He loves to listen to his big sister sing and boy can he eat!

We are so greatful for our little angel...

My Poor Babies....

So Parker getting hurt couldn't be enough for this family?  Now Abbie has had a fall herself...

Img_3647

She fell getting onto our bed yesterday am.. her leg slipped down between the side board and the mattress and her body fell backwards.  Her bone broke all the way through and was displaced.  They set it in the Dr's office and then put a full leg cast on.  She will wear the big cast for 3 weeks and then she will wear a walking cast for 3 weeks.  Because of the severity of the break we have to keep her mellow for 3 weeks and out of school during that time.   I will also take her back to the Dr next week for another x-ray to make sure that the break is still in place.  Lets just say this hasn't been easy for her.  She is in pain and frustrated on not being able to play and do what she wants to do.  I feel so bad.  Neither of us has slept much in the past 24 hours and agitated would be a nice description of her attitude through it all.  I just finally got her to eat this afternoon and she is currently napping- finally!  I feel so bad for her.

Both by kids are broke right now.  I am surprised someone hasn't called child protective services on me!

I also know that I said that I would come back on Parker's 6 week b-day and post pics.  Well I am sure you are not surprised that I didn't!  Opps!  So here you go... pics from the last 7 weeks....

Parker is doing great!  he is the best little baby!  So easy and mellow.  He is smiling (still working on getting a pic of it) and cooing and even making the beginnings of laughing sounds.  He loves his Mommy and is growing by the second.  He is now 11 pounds 12 ounces.  He is my little chunky monkey!!  He is recovering well and will start school on June 16th. The blood should almost all be absorbed into the brain now and his skull will be healed by the time he starts school.  Thank God!

LIFE IS GREAT!!!

Thank you all so much for your prayers!  They were heard and our little guys is doing so well!

As I told you before I fell Saturday morning holding Parker.  It happened about 10am and we were being seen by a Dr around 10:30am.  Mike had us from the park to the children's hospital in about 10 minutes flat (should have taken 15-20).  It always amazes me how fast they get you in there.  Mike was still filling out the paperwork and we were inside.  He was in for a CT pretty quickly and they discovered the fractures and bleeds.  I was a mess before they told me this and I was even worse after.  I felt so bad for him and so guilty like I could have done something to prevent the fall (even though I don't know how).  They brought in the head neurosurgeon (who saw Abbie when she had her skull fracture as a baby) and he told us that we were being checked into the ICU for observation and tests.  He also took Mike out to see the films while I stayed with Parker.

They put me on a bed (because I also popped a bone in my foot) and had me hold him through the transfer.  They got us up to the ICU, weighted him (weighs 9 pounds now by the way!), hooked up an IV, took a urine tests, took blood, hooked up a blood pressure band and a respirator and heart monitors.  he seemed to have wires and tubes everywhere.  Then it was just a a waiting game.  I sat on the couch in the room with him on my chest for 12 hours with them coming in every hour checking his vitals and his soft spots to make sure there was no brain swelling. Different Dr's came and went. We were instructed what to watch for that the monitors might not pick up or the nurses notice as we know him best.  They told us about the different types of seizures and clinical symptoms to keep an eye out for.

He pretty much just slept on me for about 12 hours straight and woke screaming the worst screams I have heard from a baby everythime he woke.  It broke my heart.

Both sets of grandparents came and Mike's sister (who was watching Abbie) brought her over to see us and Parker. Mike went home and packed us a bag and one for Abbie. I finally put him in the crib about 11:30pm and tried to get some sleep myself.  I took the couch and Mike took a pad on the ground.  I slept about 2 hours and was up for a few more and then dosed with him in my arms for a few more.

A new round of Dr's that worked with ours came in and checked him 1st thing.  At this point he wasn't crying as much (and neither was I).  Thank God! They were all pleased with his tests and behavior.  He was eating well at this point and responding to light.    By the time our main Dr came in he was only crying when he was hungry and was spending bits of time awake and aware.  He was so pleased and at the end of the day they moved us to a regular room on the neurology floor.  More visitor from grandparents, Abbie, his Aunt Mel, Aunt Agatha, Uncle Rick and his cousin Joey.  They let us sit with him in the family lounge while the family visited.  It felt good to do something normal with him.

In a regular room only one of us were able to stay the night, so Mike went and took Abbie home and I stayed.  Parker was up throughout the night happy and eating.  he had a great night and the Dr was so pleased when he came by the next day.  So pleased with all the tests and behavior that they sent us home.  Yeah!

We were told that he had no swelling of the brain, only swelling of the tissue on the outside of the skull where the fractures are.  The bleeding did not progress and he had no seizures.  We were told to watch for seizures at home (even though the odds were against them happening after the first 2 days) and any regression in development or change in behavior.  And the best news... they don't feel that there will be any permanent damage.. he said that he would actually be surprised if there was.

There is nothing else to be done, except to keep an eye on him and give him time to heal.  The brain will absorb the blood in about 3 weeks and the breaks will heal in about 4-5 weeks.  Obviously we need to keep him from hitting his head while it heals.  As the swelling is going down you can feel the worse fracture where he hit the right side of the head.  It runs from the front of his head by his forehead all the way to the back.  It freaks Mike out.

We are home and settled in and getting back into a routine.  Being in the hospital turned his night sleeping around a bit so we are working in that.

We are happy and healing!!!!  this was the scariest experience of my life.  Being a parent is so wonderful and so painful and scary at the same time.  I am so thankful to the wonderful Drs and nurses that cared for our family.  They not only genually cared for Parker, but were so kind to us. Bless them for the work they do- I don't know if I could do it.

You gals are the best!

I will post 6 week pictures on Friday.

PS.. I think we are close to getting our 1st smile and Abbie peed in the toilet this am!  LIFE IS GREAT!!!!
